🍬🏴☠️ Sugar Nugget – The sweetest pirate of the Seven Seas
Don't be fooled by the name.
Sugar Nugget is small.
She is lightning fast.
She loves sweets.
And in her pirate sash, she doesn't carry normal ammunition.
She carries...
candy.
Nugget is one of the most peculiar members of the crew of the Great Sea-Eating Horned Owl and makes her first appearance in the adventure of the Four Baby Pirates.
But what is a pirate with a recipe notebook doing in the middle of the ocean?
The answer is simple:
Nugget is a flavor hunter.
🍭 Who is Sugar Nugget?
In the story, she is described as having honey-colored pigtails, a crooked hat, and a sash full of hard candies.
But her most important item is a small notebook.
Indeed, Nugget writes down recipes from all over the world.
Every time the ship reaches a new port, she disappears.
Then she returns a few hours later.
Maybe with a recipe.
Maybe with a strange fruit.
Maybe with twenty-five pounds of sugar.
Once, she supposedly returned with a goat.
No one ever understood why.
📕 The Sugary Notebook
According to a crew legend, Nugget began her notebook when she was very small.
The first page contains only one recipe:
bread + chocolate.
The second:
more chocolate.
From there, the situation allegedly escalated quickly.
Today, the legendary Sugary Notebook supposedly contains hundreds of preparations collected during her travels.
Among them are:
Wind Cookies, so light they fly off the plate;
Tooth-Knocker Candies, so hard that Master Ladle forbids biting them;
Low Tide Pudding, which changes color every six hours;
Lighthouse Cake, seven layers high and visible from ships;
and the infamous Pirate Jam, whose recipe ends with:
"Add fruit until it seems like enough."
That is not a particularly precise measurement.
🍫 The Sea-Eating Horned Owl's sweets expert
When the four Baby Pirates are rescued after being left adrift, Nugget immediately understands one thing:
they are hungry.
And when Horned Owl decides to reassure them by offering them chocolate, it is precisely Nugget who opens the chest full of bars, cocoa cookies, and other sweets.
During the journey home, she also teaches the little castaways how to make cocoa and coconut balls.
In short, if Master Ladle rules the pots...
Nugget dominates the dessert department.
🏴☠️ The legend of the Candy Battle
One of the most famous stories about the pirate tells that the vessel was once surrounded by a band of raiders.
Horned Owl ordered:
“Prepare yourselves!”
Master Ladle gripped his ladle.
The crew grabbed the ropes.
Nugget loaded...
a candy.
PLOK!
The first one hit the bell of the enemy ship.
PLOK!
The second one ended up inside the enemy captain's hat.
The third...
no one knows where it ended up.
Three months later, a fisherman claimed to have found a piece of candy stuck in a coconut forty miles away.
Since then, Nugget cannot throw candy on the deck without authorization.
🗺️ Her true dream
Nugget, however, does not want to become the most feared pirate in the world.
She wants to complete something much more important:
The Great Seven Seas Cookbook.
A collection containing at least one recipe from every port, island, and people encountered during their travels.
The problem is that every time she thinks she is almost finished...
Horned Owl finds a new island.
And Nugget opens a new page.
